Sturgis, SD – It’s Where The Party Is At!
STURGIS, SD – If you are a person that likes to party (or get arrested), it sounds like Sturgis, SD is the place to be for the next week. But you better be careful, as the arrests have risen. This is the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and turning out to be one of the largest ones ever. The official dates of the rally are August 3-9, 2015. Official ARREST Numbers as of Aug 4th
Law enforcement around Sturgis are making more felony drug arrests compared to last year at this time. Between 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, and 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, the South Dakota Department of Safety said 50 felony drug arrests were made between Sturgis and Rapid City. In 2014, officers made 35 felony arrests to date.
DUI numbers are still matching last year’s numbers to date, with 108 arrests made in 2015 (107 in 2014). Law enforcement have made 107 misdemeanor drug arrests (111 in 2014), 811 total citations (575 in 2014), and 2,484 warnings (1,982 in 2014).
$15,717 in cash has been seized ($7,327 in 2014). Seven vehicles have been seized, six for drug possession and one for serial number.
Motorists have been involved in 43 non-injury crashes (28 in 2014), and eight fatal crashes (1 in 2014).
Attendance Numbers Through The Years
Here is a look at the attendance numbers throughout the years at Sturgis. Attendance projections for this year’s rally, which runs through Sunday, breached 1 million people. That would be a big jump from the record a little over 600,000 people who flooded Sturgis for the 60th anniversary in 2000 & also in 2003.
